Questions & Answer

Q1 : On many tasks is stated in Penalties: “If SP and/or FP are not crossed: 100% penalty” – I am not sure it is OK. If it is task on time base than yes it make sense. But if is like on NAVIGATION OVER A KNOWN CIRCUIT with hidden gates, photos, markers than its to harsh to have this penalty. I think the competitor should have a chance to get some other points for fly over the gates, photos etc but less time scoring. It will bring bitter taste.
I would remove this penalty from the tasks 2. A3, 2. A4, 2. A5

We confirm this penalty. It’s mandatory to cross SP & FP for any navigation task, when required. As for any motorized sport event (WRC fe) the pilot needs to cross the Start and Finish to score at any stage.

Q2 : task 2. A5 –  there is sentence “Navigation end at the FINISH point. Then they will proceed to land at their designated decks, a precision landing may be required.”
Not sure it is correct description. Maybe add “as seperate task” – as this precision landing should be seperate task.

OK to add “as a separate task”

Q3 : 2. A7. Penalties: “A 20% penalty will be imposed for flying the circle outside of a range of 200ft (61m) between lowest and highest height.” – should be 600ft

OK for modification as : “A 20% penalty will be imposed for flying the circle outside of a range of 600ft (183m) between lowest and highest height.”

Q4 : 2. A8 task scoring does not correspond to official TC. – it should correspond, do not see the point why it should be different

This task is  a variation for “A Navigation task”, with infinite Hidden Gates (corridor) .This task is  intended to be a short one, and we need to have an appropriate and specific scoring, as mentioned.

Q5 : 2.A9 task is not in official TC – can be added just like that or has to be aprroved (voted) with cima sub micro members? Not sure about this task, it is more about aircraft performance

This task is a variation for A Navigation task, inspired from the existing PPG catalogue.

This task a precision task 1st (spatial precision), and performance 2nd (speed).

Correction for scoring: The gates are not Hidden. “SL = Value assigned to crossing a slalom gate (e.g. 100) Nh = Number of hidden gates correctly crossed”.

Q6 : 2.C1.+C2+C3 – scoring “The aircraft has made an abnormal landing” – abnormal landing can be applied on ASC champ. task and NOT on classic competition. We have approved – proposal 1 on our last CIMA meeting: “Abnormal landings in all four types of landing are defined for ASC thus:…

OK to add

Q7 : 2.C1+C2 – take off – “The take-off distance can be measured and scored based on total distance deck minus take off distance aircraft.” – ????? should not be there
scoring – “The take-off distance can be measured, the value of the distance between the take-off distance minus the deck length, scored 1 point per remaining meter.” – but total scoring does not correspond

The task is to check the ability and performance take off, easily. For safety on the ground, we propose a simplification/safety score method, by using 25m areas, to be chosen by each pilot, by positioning the aircraft on the “zone”

“The exact take-off distance will not be measured. Instead, scoring can be performed according to the zone in which the pilot decides to take off. The scoring is then performed according to figure “

Q8 : 2. C6 Deck landing – is not anymore in official TC. We have removed it on our last CIMA meeting – proposal 23

OK

Q9 : LR 1.6. – Third party insurance of minimum 2,500,000€ is obligatory.
Our (Czech) insurance limit is 750 000 SDR up to MTOW 499kg and 1 500 000 SDR up to 600kg. Last year we had an exemtion from the organiser. How should we deal with that this year?

After reviewing your request regarding the insurance, we regret to inform you that we cannot grant an exemption this year. The potential risk is too high for our federation, and we prefer not to engage in such uncertainties. Additionally, our insurer advises that the pilot can negotiate with their own insurer to obtain an extension of their coverage limit. We understand that an exemption was granted last year, but this year, in France for the WMC2025, you must adhere to the organizer’s requirements, which are based on the risk involved. The organizer has a duty of safety and responsibility towards participants and nearby individuals. Therefore, it is imperative to provide documentary proof of insurance with a coverage limit of €2,500,000.

We recommend negotiating with your insurer to obtain a temporary extension of your coverage limit.

  • We hope you understand our position and can take the necessary steps to comply with the event’s requirements of the WMC

For information, Ref on 2/04/2025:

  • 750 000 SDR => 908 343.32 € (2/04/2025)
  • 1 500 000SDR => 1 816 686 € (2/04/2025)

Q10 : LR 1.14.7. Complaints about the physical mis-positioning of a scoring zone relative to a turnpoint will not be accepted unless it can be shown that the physical position of the location is outside a circle of radius R= Rp/2 where Rp= Radius or size of the scoring zone defined by the organizers – we cannot understand this properly, could anyone explain how this work?

« unless it can be shown that the physical position of the location is outside a circle of radius R= Rp/2 where Rp= Radius or size of the scoring zone defined by the organizers » fe if diameter of the marker is 500m mispositioning limit will be 500/2 = 250 tolerance.

Q11 : LR 2.4.1.3 Evidence – Marshals observing and recording the time that aircraft pass through on-track gates or pass over waypoints or turnpoints.
Is this still valid? Will marshals be used in this way? If yes, what is the procedures or measuring exact times and over the gate … ? If no, please remove

This is not used any longer, but needs to be kept in case of FR malfunction.

Q12 : LR 2.2.1 FUEL – Prior to fuelling for economy tasks, competitors must be able to demonstrate that their aircraft tanks are empty and that the engine cannot run in either the ground or in-flight attitude of the Microlight. The engine will then be run for 60 seconds to ensure all systems are free of air. -> probably typo, means “fuel“

Not a mistake, and logical. We need to control any possibility of vapor lock before take off. “The engine will then be run for 60 seconds” (if the system is free of “fuel”, the engine will be not run for long J)

Q13 :LR 1.10.7 Complaint – missing new text para S10 4.35.4 “The director cannot change his response after he has already issued a response to the complaint published on the official notice board.” – this has to be added to LR.

OK, to add as:  “The director cannot change his response after he has already issued a response to the complaint published on the official notice board.” (S10.4.35.4)”

Q14 : TC 2. A4 + A5 – More than 5 mm score zero or negative point. Out of track marks score zero or negative point. – Different scoring from the official TC – should be same.

We want to have these negative points if more than 5mm, to avoid a random reporting without any risks on the result. We use this scoring method in France, to reward excellency.

Q15 : TC 2. A8 Scores – The competitor will start with 2.000 points and the scoring will result by applying the following penalties:

  • Spatial precision: (Pnav)
  • Each time the aircraft leaves the “corridor”:
  • o Every second outside the corridor sanctioned by 2 points per full second.
  • o Additional types of scoring can be advised at the time of the briefing..
  • – should be 3 points per full second as per official TC

These are 2 different scorings (Spatial with 2s and time with 3s)

note :  about measuring take off distance of some tasks: We cancelled these tasks a few years ago. Take off and landing over the tape, measuring distance due to safety!

Take off over the tape is not included on the TC. The take off distance please cf answer on the question C1+C2

Answer Correction 29/05/25) (Cf TC V12 update)

New scoring for the TC2. A8 PRECISION NAVIGATION AIR NAV

Distance outside the corridor will be scored, and the total time between SP and FP, with a scoring balance.

Total Scoring : Coefficients (Cp for precision and Cs for speed) will be added to the formula to allow the organizers to weight the importance of speed and precision during the task.

These coefficients will be given at briefing time. Thus the total formula is as follows : Q = (SC/SCmax)xCp + (TT(best)/TT)xCs – SPtime P = 1000 * Q / Qmax
