Questions & Answer
- Regarding Rule 1.10.3 (paragraph 3):
It states that only the propeller may be changed during the championship. Does this mean that it is not permitted to change the jet size or configuration (e.g., nozzle diameter or exhaust tuning)?
This rule is part of Sec. 10 and was not questioned in the past. Please ask this question at the general briefing.
In accordance with Section 10, carburettor jets may be changed.
The competition director reserves the right to authorize other modifications provided they do not offer any competitive advantage.
No changes other than those permitted in Section 10 will be tolerated without the express approval of the competition director.
The director will announce at the briefings any authorized changes and specify for which pilots they have been granted.
excerpt from Section 10: “An aircraft shall fly throughout the championships as a single structural entity using the same set of components used on the first day. However, propellers or in the case of paramotors also carburettor jets may be changed (before a task) to enhance performance providing that the weight limit of the aircraft is not exceeded, and that the certificate of airworthiness is not prejudiced.”
2. Regarding Rule 3.1.5:
Will competition numbers be displayed on the wing? If so, will they be provided by the organizers, or must the competitors take care of this themselves?
The text is clear “..paraglider” . You can ask the organiser directly, if they will provide the numbers. Usually they do.
Yes, the organizers will provide the numbers!
3. Regarding Task 3.A7 (Navigation with unknown legs):
Understand how the quarantine instructions are delivered to the pilots. Specifically:
- Are pilots given headings to follow or lines to draw manually on the map during quarantine?
- Can instructions include things like:
“After 20,5 km, divert and go to WP5” or
“When you see the crossroad as the picture given, turn right to WP5”?
Are there other possible instruction formats we should be aware of? - Could you please provide examples of the types of instructions that may be given during this type of task?
As requested by CIMA, we have included this task from the model task catalogue. Nothing has been modified. Detailed questions should be raised during the briefing. However, we do not intend to run this task during the World Championship
4.Regarding Task 3.B8 (Economy & Triangle):
How are the axes of the triangle defined or declared?
Is there a standard procedure?
Two axes are defined. In the example from the task catalogue, the pilot first flies along the north axis, then decides when to leave this axis to create point B. The pilot must then cross the south axis at a point of their choosing to create point C. The objective is to complete the largest possible equilateral triangle.
5.Regarding Task 3.C2 (The Four Sticks):
- What is the exact height of the sticks?
- Is this a task with no points awarded, only penalties, similar to Tasks 3.C4 and 3.C5?
As requested by CIMA, we have included this task from the model task catalogue. Nothing has been modified. Detailed questions should be raised during the briefing. However, we do not intend to run this task during the World Championship.
6.Regarding Tasks 3.C6, 3.C9, 3.C10:
- What is the height of the sticks used in these tasks?
As requested by CIMA, we have included this task from the model task catalogue. Nothing has been modified. Detailed questions should be raised during the briefing. However, we do not intend to run this task during the World Championship.

7.Specifically for Task 3.C9 (Precision Wing Control):
- How is the moment when the wing tip or trailing edge touches the ground evaluated?
The trailing edge must be on the ground. Nothing said about the wing tip.
- Does the entire edge need to touch the ground, or is partial contact sufficient?
The trailing edge must be on the ground.
- We are concerned that the marshal’s reaction time may influence scoring and cause delays. Is there a more objective way to determine the moment of ground contact?
As requested by CIMA, we have included this task from the model task catalogue. Nothing has been modified. Detailed questions should be raised during the briefing. However, we do not intend to run this task during the World Championship.
8.Regarding Rule 3.2.4:
It defines the stick as a 12 mm PVC tube, 1.5 meters tall.
Can you confirm that this height applies to all precision tasks involving sticks?
Is that measure reserved for trike?
The catalogue appears clear on this point. However, as with certain other tasks, the competition director does not intend to schedule any tasks involving the use of sticks during the championship.
9.Regarding GPS precision:
There have been previous discussions (e.g., at the WPEC) about pilots losing points due to GPS errors of just a few centimeters.
- Are GPS data errors and scoring tolerances (such as timing or position margins) considered in the current rules?
- Will specific margins (e.g., +/- 2° direction or 1-second time limit) be announced during briefings?
We are well aware that GPS accuracy is not precise to the centimeter. This is precisely why the navigation corridors are defined with sufficient width and why margins are included in the regulations.
Currently, the GPS devices used by the federation are undergoing maintenance with the manufacturer to ensure optimal accuracy for the championship.
10.Regarding the registration deadlines and local rules:
Given that the Italian National Championship is scheduled for early July, we would like to propose the following adjustments to the registration deadlines:
- Extend the €600 early registration deadline from May 31 to two full months before the WPC starts.
- Extend the final registration deadline (currently June 30) to mid-July (e.g., July 15), allowing us to form and confirm the final national team after the Italian Championship.
These changes would allow us to register a provisional team, and finalize or update it shortly after our national event. Even though the financial difference is only €100 per pilot, it becomes significant for a full national team.
- Has this kind of request already been considered?
- Would the commission be open to discussing a possible extension?
The current registration schedule takes into consideration the organisational needs and financial burden. Therefore we cannot fully postpone the whole registration schedule.
However given the specific case of the Italian team, we agree to postpone the registration confirmation for this specific team to July 21st. Thus the pre-registration should be completed by May 31st but the fee will be refunded to Italian participant(s) who isn’t (aren’t) selected for the WPC.
11.Dear Eva,
thank you for this update.
I have asked the monitor and the Paramotor Sub.Committee chair for comments before the CIMA bureau will decide.
Some questions from my side:
in 3 B 5 there is mentioned the staring point F 1. This point is not shown on the drawing. Is it a miss-typo and should be P 1?
Yes, it is indeed a typo, which has just been corrected. The correct point is P1, not F1.
Tasks 3 c 2 and 3 C 6 are kind of slalom tasks close to the ground and mostly considered as dangerous. Although they are part of the model TC do you want to use this tasks?
Indeed, we do not wish to use them.
Task 3 C 7 should be a similar text regarding the 500 ft as changed like in 3 C 1.
for the race direction in the latest version of the catalog the texts say the same thing.
Best
Wolfgang
12.Feedback & Questions WPC 2025 Task Catalog and Local Regulations
by Benedikt Bös – Germany (includes feedback from competitors)
Feedback:
- My competitors are not happy about tasks like “Fast / Slow Speed” or “The Four Sticks”.
There is a clear safety reason why we don’t have any Slalom Competition above ground anymore. So we see a high risk of accident with serious injury or fatal accident when people are forced to fly full speed so close to the ground.
As requested by CIMA, we have included this task from the model task catalogue. Nothing has been modified. Detailed questions should be raised during the briefing. However, we do not intend to run this task during the World Championship.
- It would be great if Task Catalogue with new Formulas for Scoring are published much earlier. For local Pilots its no problem as they know the system for many years. But foreign Pilots have only a very short period of time to work through the catalogue, check if the Formula is same as S.10 and just has different name for variables, or if it is also different in scoring and need to check if they need to change their focus in a task.
The current version of the task catalogue has been updated to comply with the requirements of Section S.10. Most tasks are still derived from the original version, and the goal is to preserve its spirit while ensuring fairness among all nations. This is also a clearly stated intention of the Race Direction. To support this objective, certain scoring methods have been refined.
Questions:
- 3.C2. I think there should be a limit for attempts to kick the first stick. If it just says “necessary amount of attempts” it can take an hour if a pilot is not happy with the condition and wants to wait for better conditions.
As requested by CIMA, we have included this task from the model task catalogue. Nothing has been modified. Detailed questions should be raised during the briefing. However, we do not intend to run this task during the World Championship.
- 3.N1. How do you verify if the pilot changed throttle position in climb?
As requested by CIMA, we have included this task from the model task catalogue. Nothing has been modified. Detailed questions should be raised during the briefing. However, we do not intend to run this task during the World Championship.
- 3.A3 Please specify “Falls over at the landing” When a hand touches the ground, or 1 knee touches the ground, is it already scored as “falls over”? What if the Paramotor touches the ground? If somebody makes a crash landing and lands on his butt he actually doesn’t fall over as he already landed like this.
As requested by CIMA, we have included this task from the model task catalogue. Nothing has been modified. Detailed questions should be raised during the briefing. However, we do not intend to run this task during the World Championship.
In Task 3.C1. the description is more precise: “After landing, the competitor must not fall. A tolerance allows placing a knee on the ground.”
Yes absolutely, but for the 3A3 it is the CIMA version which was requested to be added to our catalog.
- 3.A4. Are the times given to the pilots by the Race director? What is the minimum Speed a wing needs to be able to reach this times?
Times are estimated by the pilots.
- 3.B5. What is F1? The Example doesn’t show it. Or is it a typo and should be P1?
Yes, it’s P1, our mistake.
- 3.B8. Objective says “Largest possible FAI Triangle” -> Rules says “Equilateral Triangle”. But FAI Triangle doesn’t have to be Equilateral.
So the Objective should say “largest possible Equilateral Triangle”
Yes, you are right, it is indeed the largest equilateral triangle.
- 3.C1. & 3.C7. What if a pilot needs more then 500ft to be able to fly 45 seconds with engine off?
It is indeed 500ft minimum that is recommended but the scoring will take into account the 45 second minimum
- 3.C1. Can you confirm that the inner circle which gives maximum points is 50cm diameter and not 25cm diameter like it’s standard in FAI S10?
No, it’s a mistake on our part, it’s definitely 25cm.
Local Regulations:
- 1.4 says PF1, PL and PL2
1.9 says additional to these PF2 Will there be a PF2 class? If yes, how many Participants?
yes it is a mistake, it is corrected: no PF2
- 1.15.1 says that Standard Symbols used in Scoring are:
V = Speed, D = Distance, T = Time
But in the Task Catalogue B is used for Distance, F is used for Time and S is used for Speed
Could you precise that, we don’t understand the question.
